Activities & Attractions

Here you'll find a brief overview of some of our favourite local activities and things to do during your time at BLR!

Fishing

Burnstick Lake is open for fishing from May 15th - March 31st annually. You can fish by boat or from shore in the summer, and the lake is a local favourite for ice fishing in the winter months!

The lake is stocked with Yellow Perch, Northern Pike, Trout and Walleye - though please make sure you have the appropriate licenses and are following Alberta Fishing Regulations for catch quantities and sizes.

You can pick up your annual fishing license while grabbing some bait at Caroline Supplies (or as the locals lovingly call it; The Maggot Shop), at the Co-op in Spruce View on your way out from Red Deer, or at Big Sky Market or Murf's Outdoor Equipment in Sundre on your way through from Calgary.

Hiking

There is a quaint, natural path worn by humans and animals alike, branching out both east and west from the boat launch and beach. Feel free to take a stroll, stop and admire the flora, and enjoy some more of the local wildlife in the area!

There are also many other small lakes and rivers in Clearwater County for your strolling pleasure if you're looking to take a day hike and have a lovely picnic in nature.

Boating & Canoeing

BLR has a public boat launch and dock for you to set sail your favourite watercrafts!

Take the boat out, bring the kids tubing or your friends water skiing and jetsking!

Launch your canoe, kayak, or paddleboard from our beach and explore the picturesque shoreline - be sure to keep your eyes peeled for some incredible wildlife viewing!

Beach

At BLR you'll find a charming, small, and secluded beach that provides the ultimate backdrop for relaxation, fun, and bonding with your loved ones.

Bask in the sun, build sandcastles, or take a refreshing dip in the lake's chilly but inviting waters. We cater to those who seek an exclusive, off-the-beaten-path experience, where you can enjoy the beauty of Burntstick Lake without the crowds.

You'll be surrounded by nature's bounty, with opportunities for birdwatching, wildlife sightings, and breathtaking sunsets over Burntstick Lake. Embrace the serene atmosphere as you unwind and reconnect with the great outdoors.
